The ground suddenly became hollow near Naksan Beach in Yangyang, Gangwon-do, which is visited by many people during the holiday season.

As a 12m wide and 5m deep sinkhole occurred, some nearby buildings collapsed and nearly 100 people were evacuated.

Half of the building is gone, and water continues to pour from the broken water supply.



Today (3rd) around 6:43 am, a 100 m² wide and 5 m deep land fell on the road near Naksan Beach in Yangyang-gun.

About 90 guests staying at nearby accommodations were also evacuated for the holiday season.

Fortunately, no one was injured, but it almost occurred at a famous beach during the summer season and could lead to a major accident.



As the water and sewer pipes ruptured due to a sinkhole, nearby sushi restaurants and shopping malls have closed their business.

Residents say that it was a foreseen accident, such as repeated large and small ground loss around the sinkhole from the beginning of this year.

Yangyang-gun presumed that the groundwater inflow from the excavation work at the construction site of the residential accommodation facility next to the accident site had an effect, and while conducting a detailed investigation with the Homeland Security Administration, said that if any violations are found, they will be prosecuted.
