The Vitry-sur-Seine police station was attacked overnight from Sunday to Monday by around twenty individuals.

The people threw several Molotov cocktails and fired mortars at the building and the police present on the spot.

None of the police officers were injured, "only" a car was destroyed.

A man has since been arrested.

It is an unlikely scene that took place on Sunday in Vitry-sur-Seine, in Val-de-Marne.

About twenty individuals attacked the police and the city police station.

What we know for the moment is that the attack took place around 1 a.m., on the night of Sunday to Monday.

It was then that people dressed in black clothes, some hooded, threw four Molotov cocktails and fireworks at the police station and towards the police cars.

No injuries

A mortar hit its target and exploded in one of the cars.

No other damage was noted, nor injured police officers.

Other incendiary devices of the same type were found near the building.

The attack was apparently premeditated, according to Pierre Belloc, communist mayor of Vitry-sur-Seine.

"There was an arrest this weekend, a little lively," he told Europe 1.

"The police force is sometimes insufficient"

"It's a form of retaliation, we are a big city with many neighborhoods. The police force is sometimes insufficient and therefore very quickly, the police are overwhelmed. At that time, all you have to do is a little slippage so that the balance is broken and that we are this type of event”, he adds.
