A military smoke grenade was found in a flower bed in a residential area in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and the military authorities launched an investigation.

The Bangbae Police Station in Seoul announced today (1st) that it had found a red smoke grenade in a residential area in Seocho-gu and handed it over to the Army Explosives Disposal Team.

The police were dispatched to the scene on the 21st of last month after receiving a report from a security guard saying "an explosive was found in the flower bed" around 3 pm.

The object reported by the guard was a dark gray closed iron cylinder.

One of the police officers present at the scene at the time, a new marine cop, noticed that the object was a smoke grenade he had seen while serving in the military.

The military authorities, who responded to the request for cooperation from the police, confirmed that there was a red smoke grenade inside the cylinder, and retrieved the smoke grenade without detonating it around 5 pm that day.

Military authorities are investigating the details of the smoke grenade's leak.
