Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min criticized the national police chiefs' meeting against the promotion of the National Police Agency today (25th), saying that the situation is equivalent to the 'Hanahoe 12/12 coup'.

Minister Lee met with a reporter on the way to the government complex in Seoul this morning and said, "Even though the police chief, the acting chief of the National Police Agency, gave the order to disband, he directly violated it." One case is almost the same as the 12/12 coup d'etat once, and it is very inappropriate."

On the 23rd, about 190 police chiefs, nearly one-third of the total police officers across the country, held a meeting and expressed an opinion that the enactment of laws related to the establishment of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security should be suspended for the time being.

The National Police Agency's command department said, "Considering the public concern, we urged people to refrain from gatherings and ordered the dissolution of the group, but we recognize it as a serious situation." After making a statement, Ryu Sam-young, the head of the Ulsan Central Police Station (Superintendent), who led the meeting, was placed on standby.

Regarding this, Superintendent Ryu said in a media call, "This time, this order was given because [the Minister of Public Administration and Security] wielded a candidate for the chief of the National Police Agency."

However, Minister Lee dismissed it, saying, "The Minister of Public Administration and Security does not have the telegram right of the Superintendent.

He continued, "I found out that (this meeting) is not a mere reason for disciplinary action under the State Public Officials Act, but less than one year in prison.

In response to criticisms from the opposition parties and front-line police centered on 'the prosecutor meeting, but not the police meeting,' Minister Lee said, "The reviewers held a meeting with the approval of the Prosecutor General, and this time they were violating the dissolution order of the Supreme Commander. There is a difference,” he explained.

He also said, "The fact that front-line commanders left the Wisu area to gather, and that the police (unlike the prosecution) are a group that mobilizes guns and knives (physical power)", he said.
