A video uploaded by a 36-year-old Chinese woman celebrating the birth of her grandson went viral on social media and sparked a 'child marriage controversy' among Chinese netizens.



According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 23rd local time, the controversy began when a 36-year-old woman named Zhang posted a video on social media while awaiting the birth of her grandson at a gynecology clinic in Nanyang City, Henan Province, central China.



Zhang posted a video with the caption, "Welcome to the new world," she said, "May all your efforts be worthwhile."



Two days later, she posted another video of Jang holding her baby, stating that she "is now officially a grandmother."



She continued, "Until now, I have not had time to filial to my parents or fulfill my responsibilities as a parent, but I am already a grandmother."



The video became a topic of discussion with a whopping 240 million views, and local netizens who saw it argued over 'early marriage'.



Some netizens responded, "It may be a life task for some, but Jang is a real winner" and "I'm envious of being a young grandmother", while others said, "Most teenage parents cannot take responsibility for their children."



In an interview with Chinese media Toutiao on the 20th, Zhang said, "It's not something to brag about."



"I dropped out of school, left home at a young age, worked in a big city, and married my current husband at the age of 19," said Zhang. .



Zhang is said to have an 18- and 7-year-old son with her, the grandson born this month is the child of an 18-year-old son.



The legal age of marriage in China is 22 for men and 20 for women, and it is said that the 18-year-old Jang's first son and couple have not registered their marriage because they are still young.



Meanwhile, according to the Chinese state-run Global Times, the average age of first marriage in China as of last year was 31.9 for men and 30.7 for women.
