Cybex makes people sit up and take notice with the Anoris T, the world's first child seat with an integrated airbag.

In the current ADAC child seat test, the Anoris also immediately took first place with a grade of 1.5.

For the protection itself there was a 0.9, i.e. better than 1, deductions were only made in the B grade, the seat covers (seven colors are on offer) are difficult to deduct, the automobile club complained.

And the seat, which weighs 11.7 kilograms, is not that easy to handle.

Cybex says children in the seat are 50 percent better protected with the airbag than without.

The development took three years in Bayreuth, and a crash track was purchased especially for this purpose, which is also available 1:1 in China.

That's where the seats are made.

Cybex now belongs to the Chinese group “Good Baby”, but founder Martin Pos is CEO there.

The Anoris' airbag, which can only be used if the vehicle has Isofix attachments, inflates in less than 30 milliseconds in the event of a crash.

It is in the impact shield (see picture).

Cybex does not require pyrotechnics, the airbag "ignites" with cold compressed air.

The forward-facing seat is suitable for children from about a year and a half or 76 centimeters tall up to the age of six years or 1.15 meters tall.

The back section can be adjusted to keep up with growth.

The system includes the base, which must be correctly and firmly fixed to the vehicle floor.

If everything is correct, there is a green light on a display.

The power for this comes from a battery in the lower part of the seat body, which also supplies the airbag system, which is therefore independent of the vehicle.

The battery lasts about three years and can be replaced, which costs 15 to 30 euros depending on the manufacturer.

Software was the biggest challenge

The seat's secure hardware wasn't a major issue for Cybex, says Raoul Bader, Cybex chief technology officer.

The company has been on the market since 2005 and is now well established.

The biggest challenge during development was the software.

“When should the airbag deploy and when not?” is not an easy question to answer.

False triggering can be ruled out.

The system is constantly sharp and continuously measures the occurring accelerations with its sensors.

When the command to deploy comes, the folded airbag builds up like a wall in front of the child, who is then protected from being hit by the accident like in a cocoon.

If it is a serial accident and the crashed car receives further impacts, the Anoris offers sufficient protection even without an airbag, it meets the necessary R-129 standard even without an airbag.

Cybex charges 750 euros for maximum safety, which is around 200 euros more expensive than a comparable Cybex seat without an airbag, but which can only be used up to the age of four.

In principle, the Anoris T is only sold through specialist retailers, but it can also be ordered online (www.cybex.de).

It is already on the market, there is a lot of interest, although the price is admittedly a high hurdle.
