The FBI issued an official alert notification on Monday regarding the resurgence of fake cryptocurrency applications in the United States.

These imitate legitimate applications, such as Binance or Coinbase, by taking up all their visual and operating codes.

Their creators thus manage to persuade investors to download them, explains PresseCitron.

These fraudulent platforms, however, contain links that refer to phishing pages.

Cybercriminals can thus access the most sensitive identifiers of their victims and then steal their money.

According to the American federal agency, the hackers would have made 244 victims in the country between October 4, 2021 and May 13, 2022. The equivalent of 42.7 million dollars (41.8 million euros) of cryptocurrency would thus have been stolen.

Stick to official stores

The FBI has therefore asked legitimate applications to warn their customers about these illegal and dangerous activities.

The applications in question are propagated exclusively outside mainstream stores such as Google Play Store or App Store.

The authorities therefore recommended never downloading financial applications apart from these.

If in doubt, internet users are advised to transfer their money to a new, safe cryptocurrency wallet.

They must then uninstall suspicious applications and change all their usernames and passwords used on all other platforms.

The FBI has finally asked all victims of this type of scam that have not yet been declared to come forward.
