Four people were killed and five others injured Friday evening in a road accident in Leubringhen in the Pas-de-Calais, on the A16, involving a car engaged in the wrong direction after refusing to comply.

Rescuers took care of nine people involved in the accident.

Four people were killed and five others injured Friday evening in a road accident in Leubringhen in the Pas-de-Calais, on the A16, involving a car engaged in the wrong direction after a refusal to comply, learned AFP with firefighters and prosecutors.

The firefighters intervened "for a traffic accident involving three light vehicles including a vehicle in the opposite direction" having occurred around 11:30 p.m., the firefighters said in a press release.

One of the victims is still between life and death

They took care of nine people involved in the accident, including "two slightly injured, three seriously injured and four victims in cardio-respiratory arrest".

Despite the first aid measures provided, "four victims were declared dead by the doctor on the spot".

The three seriously injured, two 20-year-old boys and an 18-year-old girl, were transported to hospitals in Lille.

One of the victims was still between life and death on Saturday evening, said the Boulogne-sur-Mer prosecutor's office.

The driver refused to comply

According to the first elements of the investigation, "the police wanted to check a car near Wimille, the motorist refused to comply and took the opposite direction on the A16 motorway towards Calais", explained the floor.

The three occupants of the vehicle in the opposite direction, aged 16, 28 and 34, were killed in the accident as well as a 16-year-old who was in a second vehicle hit head-on, firefighters said.

The driver of the contraflow car was known to the police for acts of violence, theft and traffic crime.
