Notchback cars have a hard time on the German market.

Nevertheless, Citroën dares to start next year with an extended version of the compact C4.

The C4X, which in Germany and some other markets will only be available as an electric vehicle in contrast to the C4, is 24 centimeters longer and thus comes to 4.60 meters.

The body is identical up to the B-pillar, and the rear doors are also the same.

But then there is a bold swing in length.

Although from the side it looks like the C4X is also a hatchback, it has a closed trunk with a small hatch and a volume of 510 liters.

That is significantly more than in the C4, which only has 380 liters.

Cars with a separate trunk are still in demand, especially in southern countries.

There will also be versions with petrol and diesel engines.

Only the electric variant, for which the Stellantis brand Citroën uses the group's modular system, comes to Germany.

The front wheels are driven by an electric motor with 100 kW (136 hp), the maximum torque is 260 Newton meters.

The batteries in the underbody have a storage capacity of 50 kWh.

That's not a lot, but due to a slightly improved drag coefficient, the C4X has a few more kilometers of range: 360 kilometers are specified.

But you can't drive continuously at 150 km/h, that's the limited top speed.

At the fast charging station, the Citroën can charge with a maximum of 100 kW, so that the filling level of a fairly empty battery rises to 80 percent in half an hour.

Alternating current at the wall box is processed with 11 kW, so empty batteries can be refilled in five hours.

Citroën has not yet announced a price, but as of now it should be around 40,000 euros, with the longer rear planned at 1500 euros.
