As I told you a few days ago, there are dizzying accidents in which a steel leaf spring flies into a vehicle running on the highway.

Correspondent Son Ki-joon reported.

Seohaean Expressway on May 2nd.

An iron rod flew and hit the windshield on the driver's side.

The car hit a guard rail and came to a stop.

The driver, 45-year-old Mo Kim, broke his rib and seriously injured his left hand.

[Mom Kim / Driver at the time of the accident: I saw something flying like a boomerang in the third lane, and then passed out.

right and faint

(Realizes) There was an iron in my chest like this.]

I am still suffering from pain and trauma.

[Mr. Kim / Driver at the time of the accident: All his knuckles are numb and swollen.

If it's like a fingernail, now when the wind blows, the thread (it seems like it's rubbing against it) feels like a knife, like a knife?

Usually, I can't sleep, and then I can't do (daily) life.]

The police confirmed that the trailer car in front at the time stepped on a leaf spring that was over 70 cm in length and flew by Kim's car.

However, the trailer driver told police he was not aware that he had stepped on the leaf spring.

The police also recently dismissed the charge of hit and run by the driver, saying that the leaf spring was stepped on the rear wheel and the driver did not seem to be aware of it.

Police were unable to determine which vehicle first dropped the leaf spring on the road.

In the end, Mr. Kim had to pay the cost of scrapping the car and treatment on his own.

As it is difficult to prove the perpetrator, it is pointed out that the crackdown and punishment for the illegal installation of leaf springs should be strengthened.

[Pilsu Kim/Professor, Department of Automobile, Daelim University: There is no problem in using it as a shock absorber, but you should keep in mind that cutting the leaf spring and using it as a support for the loading box is illegal and can be used as a weapon...

.]

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that from the end of this month, it will cooperate with the National Police Agency to crack down on trucks that have installed leaf springs illegally.
