Prosecutors have launched a full-scale investigation into the case in which the National Intelligence Service (NIS) accused former National Intelligence Service heads of 'the attack of a public official in the West Sea' and the 'repatriation of North Korean fishermen to the North'.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office today (7th) distributed allegations of charges such as violation of the National Intelligence Service Act by Park Ji-won and Seo Hoon of the former National Intelligence Service to the 1st Public Investigation Division and the 3rd Public Investigation Division, respectively.

The NIS is known to have caught the situation in which former Director Park ordered the unauthorized deletion of intelligence-related reports when an official of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries was shot and killed by North Korean soldiers in September 2020.

In addition, in November 2019, two North Korean sailors killed 16 colleagues and announced their intention to defect to North Korea, but in connection with the deportation to North Korea, then Director of the National Intelligence Service, Suh Hoon, is believed to have given improper instructions during the joint investigation process.

There are speculations that the prosecution will allocate the case one day after receiving the NIS complaint and speed up the investigation as it begins reviewing the complaint letter.
