As you can see, if there is a fire on a ship anchored in the port, it can easily be transferred to another nearby ship and lead to a large fire.

As the number of larger fishing boats increases, the port becomes narrower and more vulnerable to fire. This part was pointed out by JIBS reporter Dong-eun Kim.

Red flames surround the fishing boat.

The three fishing boats that were moored together were set on fire.

This is the same situation as the Seongsan Port fishing boat fire that occurred just three days ago.

The fire started on one fishing boat and quickly spread to nearby fishing boats.

Fortunately, if the fishermen did not move the boat in a hurry in the morning, it could have led to a bigger fire.

Fishing boat fires in the harbor, once ignited, spread to large-scale fires, so additional safety measures are required.

The problem lies in the way the fishing boats are anchored.

There are not enough berths to anchor fishing boats in major ports in Jeju, so there is no choice but to densely moored fishing boats one after another.

20 years ago, the average tonnage of all fishing boats in Jeju was 6 tons, but now it has tripled to 18 tons.

During the same period, the number of large fishing vessels weighing more than 20 tons increased by more than 100.

The port size is not keeping up with the recent trend of large-scale fishing boats in Jeju.

97% of fishing boats in the province are made of fiber-reinforced plastic FRP and are vulnerable to fire.

At present, the biggest problem is that there is no sharp method other than quick initial action before the fire spreads.
