Jean-Marc Reiser was sentenced to life imprisonment, together with a 22-year security sentence for the assassination of Sophie Le Tan.

If the accused had admitted during his trial to have killed the young woman, he had rejected any premeditation.

It was the maximum sentence.

Jean-Marc Reiser, 61, was sentenced on Tuesday by the Bas-Rhin Assize Court to the maximum sentence he faced, life imprisonment with 22 years of security, for the assassination of the student Sophie Le Tan in 2018.

When the verdict was announced, Mr. Reiser remained stoic, hand behind his back, looking down.

In his last speech, he had demanded a "just" sentence and reaffirmed that he had never wanted or premeditated the death of Sophie.

This verdict is in accordance with the requisitions pronounced Monday by the Advocate General.
