July 5, 1857 was born one of the founders of the Communist Party of Germany and an active participant in the struggle for women's rights, Clara Zetkin. She played an important role in the creation of the Second International and was friendly with Vladimir Lenin. Zetkin is also credited with the idea of establishing International Women's Day on March 8. After Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany, Clara Zetkin opposed Nazism and emigrated to the USSR.
