A man in his 40s has been arrested for intentionally causing a traffic accident with a luxury foreign vehicle and collecting insurance money.

The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul used a motorcycle from July of last year to March of this year to cause a traffic accident targeting a luxury foreign car that violates traffic laws and defrauded the insurance company to defraud a 42-year-old man named A. He said he was arrested on charges of violating the Special Prevention Act and fraud.

In February, an insurance company asked the police to investigate whether the traffic accident involving Mr. A was intentional.

In the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Mr. A received insurance money from the insurance company in the name of treatment and repair costs after 41 traffic accidents in the metropolitan area and Chungcheong Province for 8 months.

Mr. A used the insurance money he received in this way for internet gambling and local entertainment in Vietnam.

Based on the video analysis of the National Institute of Forensic Sciences, the statements of the person involved in the accident, and the suspect's actions before and after the crime, the police determined that Mr. A intentionally caused the accident.

When the insurance company suspected an intentional accident, Mr. A fled to Vietnam and then returned to Korea, but was arrested by the police on the 27th of last month at a hiding place in Sadang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul.

Police are continuing their investigation to see if there have been additional crimes in addition to the 41 intentional accidents that have been confirmed so far.
