According to a first provisional report, five people died and eight others were injured in the Alps of northern Italy, the emergency services announced on Sunday afternoon.

According to the first elements, a huge block would have detached from the Marmolada glacier, the highest peak of the Dolomites massif.

A huge block broke off on Sunday from the Marmolada glacier in the northern Italian Alps, killing at least five people and injuring eight, the emergency services said.

“Unfortunately, five people were found dead,” relief spokeswoman Michela Canova told AFP, also reporting eight injured for this “still provisional assessment”.
