It has been raining for several days in North Korea as well as us.

In particular, in the Imjin River basin, tensions are rising as the water level can rise sharply due to rain from North Korea.

Let's go to Imjingang Gunnam Dam.

Reporter Shin Yong-shik, I heard that the water level of the Imjin River has risen a lot. What is the current situation?

Yes, it is not raining right now, but the water in the Imjin River has increased a lot because it has been raining for several days.

There is a repeat of strong rains falling and stopping here.

The water level of the Imjin River is expected to continue rising as the meteorological authorities issued a heavy rain warning throughout Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province in preparation for torrential rain tonight (29th).

As of 4 pm, the water level of Gunnam Dam on the Imjin River is about 30m, and the Gunnam Dam situation room opens 13 sluice gates and pours out 3,650 tons of water per second, but the water level is rising little by little.

In addition, tensions cannot be relaxed because if North Korea opens the floodgate of the Hwanggang Dam, which is only 57 km from here, to discharge rainwater, the water level can rise immediately.

Fortunately, North Korea does not appear to have opened the floodgates of the Hwanggang Dam yet, but the level of the river on the North Korean side is still high.

The water level at Pilseung Bridge, the main observation point of the Imjin River, was 6.3m as of 4 PM, and it is rising again from the morning.

It is only 1.2m left to 7.5m, which is the level of 'crisis response concern'.

Accordingly, the management authorities are also paying close attention to the situation in real time in case of a flood or landslide, and warning the residents around the dam to be careful about safety.

In 2009, North Korea's unauthorized discharge of the Hwanggang Dam resulted in the death of six South Koreans.

On the morning of the 29th, a call was made at the North-South Joint Liaison Office around 9 am, but North Korea did not respond to our request regarding the discharge of the dam.
