Recently, the number of applicants for the national certification of confectionery and bakery technicians exceeded 120,000 last year, a record high.

According to the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, the number of applicants for the national technical qualification in the confectionery and baking sector last year was 122,000.

The number of test takers is steadily increasing, with over 70,000 in 2019 and 87,000 in 2020.

With the recent development of dessert culture, large cafes and franchises have increased, and confectionery and baking qualifications are attracting attention as fields that allow employment as well as start-ups.

An official from the Corporation explained, 'The atmosphere of difficult employment also seems to have played a part in this trend' and 'It is noteworthy that the application rate for confectionery technicians has increased significantly, especially the increase in the proportion of male applicants.'

Among the middle-aged and older people over the age of 50, it is said that men obtained the most forklift driving and excavator driving skills, and women acquiring Korean cuisine cooking and architectural painting technicians the most.

It is analyzed that the tendency to acquire qualifications favorable for re-employment and start-ups has increased.
