Commissioner Kim Chang-ryong of the National Police Agency expressed his resignation about a month before his term of office.

The National Police Agency said that Commissioner Kim expressed his resignation this morning (27th) and that he will announce an additional position in the afternoon.

In the background of Commissioner Kim's resignation, there is a problem with the police control recommendation of the Police System Improvement Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the controversy over the overthrow of the magistrate's personnel.

The internal staff protested against the police control recommendation, and President Yoon Seok-yeol rebuked the reversal of the police officer's appointment as 'disrupting the national flag'.

In particular, as Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min announced on the 21st that the Advisory Committee recommended the establishment of a police management organization within the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, protests within the organization grew stronger.

If Commissioner Kim's resignation is accepted, the National Police Agency will become the acting deputy chief Yoon Hee-geun for the time being.

In addition, as Commissioner Kim expressed his resignation, the nomination, hearing, and appointment procedures for the next police chief are expected to proceed quickly.
