A policeman from the Haguenau police station, in the Bas-Rhin, killed himself Thursday morning around 8 a.m. with his service weapon in a room of the establishment.

Aged 45, the official had been assigned to the "public road" service, and had obtained his transfer to the Hautes-Alpes for the start of the school year.

A 45-year-old policeman killed himself Thursday morning with his service weapon at the Haguenau police station (Bas-Rhin), said functional divisional commander Raymond Briclot and the Alternative Police union.

"A deep sadness grips us this morning on learning that David, 45, affected in the Bas-Rhin, has ended his life," wrote the union on its social networks.

The facts took place around 8 a.m. according to Sylvain André, Grand Est deputy secretary of this union, after the official assigned to the police station of this sub-prefecture of Bas-Rhin "for four-five years" took office.

"He did this in a room at the police station, near the armory," said Sylvain André, for whom "this act should be considered a work accident, attributable to the service".

“A lack of benevolence and recognition”

"There is a lack of staff in Haguenau and a lack of attractiveness in the Grand Est which is known, the colleagues are physically exhausted", further estimated the union representative, denouncing "a lack of benevolence and recognition of hierarchy and administration.

"He was a great guy," said Commander Briclot.

The deceased official, single and childless, was to join a police station in the Hautes-Alpes at the start of the school year after obtaining his transfer.

He was assigned to the "public road" service in Haguenau, and had previously been stationed in Strasbourg.
