Enlarging an image

It looks like an SUV has fallen out in the middle of the tidal flat and is waiting to be rescued.

Earlier this month, it was also known that one electric car was in a similar situation in the same place.

This is the road in the picture where I am standing now.

The place you see behind me is Seonjaedo, Ongjin-gun, Incheon, and the place you can see over there is an island called Jeokdo. The accident happened on the only road connecting the two islands.

Now the water is gone and the whole area is tidal flat, so let's check out how the cars actually got into the water.

Recently, it has become famous as a so-called 'camping holy place' and many tourists are looking for a small island village with less than 70 residents.

To enter this place, you have to go through a 4m wide and 500m long gravel road that is attached to the tidal flat. At high tide, the road is locked and only appears twice a day.

However, there are no iron fences or signs to separate the gravel road and the tidal flat, so accidents are caused by confusion with the road and falling into the tidal flat.

[Shin Seok-gyu/Sideo resident: (a year) It will be more than 10 times.

Well, there are times when I miss a couple or two a day...

.]

Residents who come and go every day are no exception.

[Chun Byung-wook/Resident Resident: I'm missing two...

.

I also lived here for up to 20 years, but when it gets foggy, I can't afford it.]

There is another reason why cars fall into the tidal flats.

If you follow the gravel road leading to the side of the road, there is a new road in the direction of the tidal flat.

This road was made temporarily for local fishermen to use, and cars wanting to see the mud flats up close often come in.

Most accidents happen when these vehicles are turning to exit again.

At first glance, the tidal flats may look hard, but once you put your feet in this way, you cannot easily get out and you are trapped.

[Shin Seok-yeon / Seonjae-do resident: I went to the muddy ground and tuned it, so I want to run once…

.

I went back and forth back and forth trying to get out of a falling state...

.

The Lecca car fell out again because of the weight of the pulling force...

.]

If the tide does not get out until the tide comes in, the vehicle will be flooded. Most of the vehicles are disposed of as scraps as parts rust with seawater.

Traces of the wheels of vehicles pulled by tow trucks remain on the tidal flats.

A villager has asked the municipality to build a bridge several times, but it has not been granted.

[Min Jeong-rye/Resident resident: (neighbor) You came to my house at dawn because you spilled too much coffee.

please save me

I called 119 and I couldn't come because of the water...

.]

[Taesu / Head of Seonjae 1-ri, Ongjin-gun, Incheon: There is no such thing as a budget…

.

If there was such an overland bridge, I don't think this would happen...

.]

I went to the local government.

[Ongjin-gun official: We made some warning signs and warning signs.

(To build a bridge) It cost over 120 billion won.

Then, with the limited budget of Ongjin-gun...

.]

The Ongjin County Office has announced that it will produce caution signs at the entrances to the two islands within this month.
