A man in his 40s was sentenced to prison for assaulting a passerby who reported it after he had a drunk driving accident.

According to the legal community today (16th), Detective 4 of the Daejeon District Court (Judge Lee Ji-hyeong) sentenced A (40), who was charged with special assault and violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving), to 1 year and 6 months in prison.

A is charged with assaulting a 27-year-old passerby who reported the accident after driving under the influence of alcohol about 1.1 km on a road in Daejeon around 10 pm on December 29 last year.

On this day, B witnessed a drunk driving accident and asked A, "Shouldn't I report it?"

At that time, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was 0.211%, which was the level of license revocation.

After that, when Mr. B reported a drunk driving accident to the police, Mr. A took out a weapon and showed Mr. B to Mr. B and assaulted Mr. B's face several times.

As a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that Mr. A was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes in 2017 and 2 years and 6 months in prison for attempted murder, respectively, and was released in May of last year.

In response, the court said, "Even though he has a history of fines for drunk driving, he caused an accident in a parking lot while driving drunk and showed a weapon to the victim who witnessed it and assaulted him.

However, he said, "It seems that the crime occurred while the defendant was reflecting on his crime and admitting to it, and he was pessimistic about his situation and drank alcohol." Efforts, etc., are advantageous,” he said, explaining the reason for the sentencing.
