An appeals court has sentenced a man in his 40s to a heavy sentence for trying to cover up a crime by killing his girlfriend, burying him in a dark place, and sending him a text message.

According to the legal community today (15th), the Daegu High Court Criminal Division 1 (Judge Jin Seong-cheol) dismissed both the prosecution and the defendant's appeals in the appeals trial against A (43), who was sentenced to 18 years in prison in the first trial for being charged with murder I did.

Person A is charged with murdering and burying Mr. B (42) in the city of Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, in September last year.

At that time, the people they met through a chatting app were drinking together, but Mr. A tried to drive under the influence and started an argument with Mr. B, who was trying to stop him.

In the process, Mr. A was angry at Mr. B's comparison of his economic ability with other men and wielded a knife in his car.

As a result, Mr. B died of excessive bleeding, and Mr. A buried Mr. B, who had died, in an empty lot under a mountain in Nam-gu, Pohang.

Still, he tried to cover up the crime by leaving a text message to the deceased Mr. B saying "Waiting for contact" and "I'm worried" and removing the black box memory card installed in the vehicle.

Accordingly, in January, the first trial court sentenced A to 18 years in prison.

Mr. A appealed on the grounds that "the sentence was heavy" and the prosecution filed an appeal on the basis that the sentence was "light".

The court of appeals said, "The victim's family is still pleading for a severe punishment for Mr. A, and there is no factor to change the sentence of the original court."
