A court ruling has been issued demanding that the state compensate the government for obstructing the activities of the Special Investigation Committee for the Sewol Ferry Disaster during the Park Geun-hye administration.

The 29th Civil Settlement Division of the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of some of the plaintiffs today (9th), saying, "Pay each plaintiff 10 million won in alimony" in a lawsuit filed by 31 former investigators of the Sewol Ferry Special Task Force against the government.

The court explained the reason for the ruling, saying, "We have taken into account the fact that it appears that South Korean officials have experienced considerable frustration and helplessness due to the sabotage activities."

31 plaintiffs, who worked as investigators of the Sewol Ferry Special Task Force, filed a claim for damages of 20 million won per person in November 2020, claiming that then Cho Yun-seon, former chief of political affairs at the Blue House, and Lee Byung-gi, former chief of staff of the President, had interfered with the activities of the special task force.
