<Reporter> The

cargo solidarity of the Public Transport Workers' Union of the KCTU started an indefinite general strike from 00:00 today (7th).

Of the total 420,000 workers engaged in freight transport, only 25,000 are members of the Cargo Solidarity, but the proportion of union members such as import/export containers and cement transport vehicles is high, which is expected to have a significant impact on logistics.

In addition, non-members who have suffered from the recent surge in diesel prices are highly likely to participate.

The Cargo Solidarity is demanding the extension and expansion of the safe fare system.

The safe fare system is a system that guarantees minimum freight rates to freight owners or transport operators, and imposes fines on shippers who do not comply with these requirements.

This system was implemented for three years from 2020 and is about to be abolished at the end of this year.

[Yang Kyung-soo/Chairman of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions: It is no different than a declaration to give up safety any longer.

It is a decision of death that drives freight workers to over-load, over-speed, and overwork again.]

Soaring oil prices are also a reason.

In the case of the safety fare system, the fares of truck drivers do not decrease even if the oil price rises because it is linked with fuel costs.

Therefore, the Cargo Solidarity is demanding that the safety fare currently applied only to import/export containers and cement vehicles be expanded to all vehicle types.

First of all, the government decided to implement emergency transportation measures to prevent a logistical disruption.

He also said that he planned to discuss the requirements by communicating with the Cargo Solidarity, but said that he would take strong action if illegal activities occur.

The Cargo Solidarity is planning to hold a general strike ceremony starting at 10 am today.
