Prosecutors have launched the first compulsory investigation into allegations of violations of the Public Official Election Act that occurred during the June 1 local election.

According to the legal circle, the 2nd Public Investigation Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Kyung-geun) has sent prosecutors and investigators to the office of the mayor and secretary of the Jung-gu Office in Seoul from around 9:30 a.m. today (2nd) to secure materials related to events held at the ward office. .

Earlier, the Seoul Election Commission said that Jung-gu Mayor Seo-ho Seo ordered the ward office staff to discover and hold an event he attended ahead of the local election, and repeatedly promoted his achievements to constituencies by attending the event, violating the Public Official Election Act. The charges were filed with the prosecution last April.

After examining the allegations listed in the complaint, the prosecution immediately launched a forced investigation after the election was over.

Based on the data obtained, the prosecution plans to examine whether the mayor's actions are in violation of provisions such as prohibition of public officials from participating in elections or prohibition of pre-election campaigns.

The mayor of Seo-gu, who belongs to the Democratic Party of Korea, failed to reappoint in this election after being pushed back by candidate Kim Gil-seong, a candidate of the People's Strength, by 489 votes.
