With the hybridization of the 500X and Tipo Hybrid, Fiat is removing the conventional petrol engines and the 130 hp diesel from the range.

Instead, both models combine a 130-hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder with a 20-hp electric motor integrated into the transmission.

There is only a small, only 0.8 kWh battery.

A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission transfers power to the front wheels.

The main purpose of the mild hybrid drive is to support the two Fiats when starting and ensure consumption is reduced by up to 11 percent.

According to the WLTP cycle, the combustion engine is completely decoupled for up to 47 percent of the time when idling, and for city driving even up to 62 percent.

The average values determined in this way of 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers in the Tipo and 6.6 liters in the 500X can probably only be achieved with a very comfortable driving style.

On the first rides at a moderate speed, we were two liters more each time.

But mild hybrid technology offers even more.

The two newcomers can move into and out of parking spaces electrically as quietly as a whisper, and the practical crawl function ensures that you can move forward briefly in traffic jams or stop-and-go traffic in the city without having to press the accelerator pedal.

While Fiat can reduce the CO2 emissions of its fleet with the measures, customers for the new models have to dig deeper into their pockets than before.

This applies in particular to the compact Tipo, which was launched six years ago as a simple but rock-solid family car and was last priced at 19,990 euros.

Now at least 28,490 euros are due.

However, the 4.37 meter long hatchback and the 20 centimeters longer and, as before, 1500 euros more expensive Tipo hybrid station wagon are now much better equipped, including LED headlights and automatic air conditioning are always there.

At 28,990 euros, the 4.26 meter long 500X has become around 5000 euros more expensive.

The crossover, which is based on the Jeep Renegade and weighs at least 1400 kilograms and is often scolded as an "inflated 500", is also available as before with a foldable fabric top for an additional 3000 euros.

A slightly more rustic Cross variant is available for both models.
