A 40-year-old public official from Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do, who stole 400 million won from the national treasury and wasted it on stocks and virtual currency, has been sentenced to imprisonment.

On the 26th, the Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch Criminal Division 1 (Chief Judge Shin Gyo-sik) sentenced A (40), who was handed over to trial for violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (loss, etc.)

Another 399 million won was collected.

"As a public official who must have strict morality and integrity, he misused the loopholes in the contract and embezzled a large amount of money and caused enormous damage," the court said. .

"The punishment was decided in consideration of the fact that there was no forgiveness from Hoengseong-gun who caused the damage and no compensation for the loss was made."

Person A hoped for a public participation trial during the trial process, but the court did not accept it and proceeded with a general criminal trial.

Person A was handed over to trial earlier this year on charges of embezzling public funds worth 399 million won 44 times from 2020 to last year.

Person A committed the crime by transferring the budget to be paid for the event fee and administrative support worker personnel expenses to his or her account or a friend's account.

It was confirmed that the stolen public funds were wasted after investing in stocks and virtual currencies.

Hoengseong-gun dismissed Mr. A from his position in November last year.
