An elementary school in Seoul closed four years ago, but the surrounding roads are still set as children's protection areas, so complaints from residents are continuing.

Mr. A in his 50s, who lives in Seoul, recently received a parking ticket in the child protection zone from the ward office.

Person A said, 'The elementary school next door closed in March 2018, but the surrounding road has been set as a child protection area for over 4 years, so the parking violation fines are much more expensive'.

The fines for parking violations on public roads and children's protection areas are 40,000 won and 120,000 won, respectively, three times the difference.

The ward office explained that the elementary school was closed, but the kindergarten inside the school was not closed, so it was maintained as a child protection area according to the regulations.

However, since March 2020, kindergartens have also been closed without accepting students, and the ward office has been criticized for running a desk administration that does not inspect the site.

In response, an official from the ward office said, 'We are reviewing whether there are areas for residents to understand and improve.'
