On May 19, 1922, the 2nd All-Russian Conference of the Komsomol decided to create pioneer detachments throughout the RSFSR. From this event it is customary to count the history of the All-Union Pioneer Organization named after V.I. Lenin, the largest children's association in the USSR. The official goal of the pioneers was to educate "young fighters for the cause of the Communist Party." But, in addition to this, pioneer organizations served as an effective means for the socialization of Soviet children, organizing their leisure time and developing skills that would be useful in their future life. During the existence of the Soviet Union, more than 210 million children managed to visit pioneers. After the collapse of the USSR, on the basis of the pioneers, the International Union of Children's Public Associations "Union of Pioneer Organizations - Federation of Children's Organizations" was created.
