The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced today that a ceremony to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement will be held tomorrow (18th) at 10 am at the May 18 National Cemetery in Buk-gu, Gwangju.



This year's commemoration ceremony will be expanded to about 2,000 people due to the easing of COVID-19 distancing.



The commemorative ceremony, which is held under the theme of 'We will give May,' will be held for 55 minutes in the order of flowers and incense, national rituals, progress reports, commemorative performance, commemorative speech, commemorative performance, and 'March Song for You'.



The 5.18 Democratization Movement-related group heads and students from schools participating in the 5.18 Democratization Movement participate in the offering of flowers and incense to commemorate the sacrificed spirits.



Afterwards, two college students will conduct a progress report containing the truth, historical significance, and commitment of the May 18 Democratization Movement.



The commemorative performance begins with a video with the theme of 'The Truth of May' and continues with a performance at the memorial hall.



Minister of Veterans Affairs Park Min-sik said, "I hope that all the people will inherit the noble spirit of the May 18 Democratization Movement and create a hope-filled May together."



The ceremony to commemorate the May 18 Democratization Movement was designated as a legal anniversary in 1997 and was held by the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs until 2002.
