A court sentenced a 40-year-old man who wielded a knife at a passenger sitting next to the subway.

According to the legal community today (9th), the 22nd Criminal Settlement of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Lee Jun-cheol) sentenced A (49), who was charged with attempted murder, to 5 years in prison.

Person A is charged with attempting to kill a passenger B (32), who was sitting next to the subway, with a knife, but in an unsuccessful attempt.

Person A misunderstood the passenger B next to him as someone who was not usually good at the crime.

Person A, who was brought to court, claimed that he suffered from depression and insomnia, and was in a state of weakness due to the side effects of the drug he had taken the day before the crime.

In fact, it was understood that Mr. A had been receiving psychiatric treatment after suffering trauma in a major accident while at work, but the court did not accept this.

The court ruled, "I have been receiving psychiatric treatment at a university hospital, but it seems that I have never been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, delusional disorder, extreme anger control or impulse control disorder."

The court said, "Person A has a history of being punished for violent crimes, etc. several times before the crime. I hope," he pointed out.

However, he explained the reason for sentencing, saying that he took into account the fact that Mr. A had been receiving treatment for depression and that he was reflecting on his mistakes.
