The boom in craft beer over the last decade has found in the revitalization of traditional markets the perfect community to locate a high-quality product.

The markets have allowed small businesses to open a gastronomic space with several advantages compared to a street shop: the rent is cheaper, it has the help of market management and it allows you to pair your drinks with dozens of different products.

Vallehermoso Market |

@prost_chamberi

Rodrigo Pascual is the founder of this half Argentine, half Spanish tavern.

He arrived here when there were barely 30% seats.

Along with the rest of the premises, he revitalized the market, "something very much ours", and made it a reference.

From his taps come classic styles from around the world, with a special focus on European beers.

2 THE VIRGIN |

Vallehermoso and Chamberí |

@cervezalavirgen

These people from Madrid opened their first bar in an old fish market.

The idea, according to César Pascual, one of its founders, was to be in the "center of Madrid".

Also present in the Chamberí market, they have a wide and varied audience: "There are very old people who go to buy at the stall they have always used or a group of university students who go to try the last dish of their favorite restaurant."

3 DRAKKAR |

Vallehermoso |

An old poultry house was used to found this Viking temple seven years ago.

The Nordic scenery has given way to dozens of beer stickers from all over the world.

They started by serving wine, mead and beer.

Little by little they were expanding their offer of beers up to nine taps.

They have a varied assortment where there is never a shortage of "powerful" beers.

Vallehermoso |

@craft19madrid

In 2017, Craig, a computer scientist from the US based in Madrid, opened this stall in the Vallehermoso market and turned it into a temple of pastrami.

Since he couldn't find any that reminded him of the one he ate in his country, he decided to make it himself.

"The entire process takes a month," explains Craig.

To accompany it, they only serve craft beer, "the ideal partner" for their gargantuan sandwiches, their sandwiches with bacon, also made by them, and their hamburgers.

5 BEER BANG |

Guindalera Market |

@beerbangmadrid

The small and charming Guindalera market has this stall on one of its corners, which combines two beer brands: Eterna and Albufera.

What started as a shop in 2016 is now a bar that makes the most of the "synergies" with the rest of the stalls.

Sharing a roof "allows craft beer to be associated with a premium product," explains Nora, one of the partners.

"Being in a market has always been synonymous with quality," she adds.

In addition, they have the flexibility to stretch schedules by sharing expenses among participating positions.

6 THE WORLD |

Chamartin Market |

@the.world

Erika and Alex are the owners of this stall in the Chamartín gourmet market.

Neither of them had any previous relationship with the beer industry other than that they were "big fans".

Their passion for beer led them to open a project, which they combine with their jobs, in a market they knew.

The area was inviting: "There was nothing like it."

Among the beers that can be found on its shelves there are references from all over the world, with special attention to 75 cl bottles.

of sour beers, ideal for sharing.

7 HOP HOP HURRAH |

Barceló Market |

@hophophurrah

After spending time in the United Kingdom, Miguel Gil and Paula Blanco decided to open this space where beer and design go hand in hand.

Lovers of traditional markets and "aware of local products", according to Miguel, the Barceló market offered them the opportunity to start a new project.

"Specialized in independent breweries", visitors to the market can find both single bottles and specialized packs that refer to pop iconography: The Breakfast Club, A Hard Day's Night or Scary Monster are some of these packs.

8 THE GOOD LOOK |

Saint Ferdinand |

@labuenapintalavapies

On weekends this market is a hive of people.

In part, thanks to this stall, one of the first to open to revitalize one of Madrid's classic fish markets.

Half store, half bar, it has more than 15 taps, two of them gluten-free, with all kinds of beers and hundreds of bottles that are constantly rotating.

9 FOR BEER PLANET |

Tirso de Molina |

@forbeerplanet

The Tirso de Molina market is one of the gastronomic attractions of Puerta del Ángel.

One of its stalls is run by José Luis Corral, journalist and Beer Sommelier.

Traditional commerce stops are mixed with places like this one, whose name is inspired by the movie Forbidden Planet and where you can drink beers of dozens of styles.

10 SHANTY TOWN |

Numantia |

@shantytownmadrid

The Numancia market, in Vallecas, is the headquarters of this place with ska music as its inspiration, nine beer taps and dozens of bottles.

For pairing, their gildas are especially famous.
