Visa-free entry for foreigners on Jeju Island was suspended in February 2020, when the first corona epidemic began.

[Jeong Sye-kyun / then Prime Minister (February 2, 2020): We will temporarily suspend the visa-free entry system in accordance with the Jeju Special Act in consultation with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.]

The Jeju tourism industry suffered a considerable blow.

[Jeju Tourist Information Center staff (last February 4, 2020): Not only individual tourists but also groups have definitely decreased a lot.]

The government is expanding visa-free entry for foreigners from next month to restore daily life and revitalize the local economy.

The priority targets are Jeju and Yangyang Airports.

In Jeju, foreigners can stay in Jeju for 30 days without a visa, but 10 countries, including Japan and Hong Kong, where visa-free agreements have been mutually suspended, and 24 countries, including countries sponsoring terrorism, are still excluded.

Groups of 5 or more tourists coming from Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia through a Gangwon-do designated travel agency can stay for 15 days without a visa when passing through Yangyang Airport.

Mongolia is available from October.

Government support to promote telecommuting will also begin.

It supports up to 20 million won for infrastructure construction costs such as video conferencing systems, and up to 3.6 million won for additional personnel and labor management costs per year.

[Sohn Young-rae / Head of Social Strategy Team at Central Accident Remediation Headquarters: Since it is time to live together with COVID-19 for the time being, we believe that establishing telecommuting in areas where telecommuting is possible is a necessary measure for work-life balance.

] I thought that the decrease in the epidemic would be maintained even if the amount of movement increases during the stepping stone holiday starting tomorrow (5th), but I urged you to keep personal quarantine.
