• Elon Musk buys Twitter for $44 billion

Elon Musk

wants to buy

Twitter, Zuckerberg

wants to conquer virtual reality, but... what about

Snapchat?

Although it is hard to believe, the social network that invented the concept of stories -now unavoidable on any platform- is still alive.

It has about 319 million daily active users which puts it ahead of Twitter or

Telegram,

even if it doesn't generate as much attention.

It also has a division dedicated to creating complementary mobile devices that has given some surprises over the years.

Ray-Ban, for example, has just launched

Ray-Ban Stories,

glasses with an integrated video camera, together with Facebook.

It's an idea that was born on Snapchat with the

Spectacles,

which hit the market in 2016. Now, that division has a new bet:

Pixy.

It is a completely autonomous drone designed to

take selfies and record videos.

Small in size (it fits in the palm of your hand and even in your pants pocket), it costs approximately 230 euros and is controlled very simply thanks to a wheel with five preset flight programs.

These programs are designed to capture different types of shots of the person using it, but not to record landscapes or make complex movements.

Pixy

automatically takes off by turning it on in the palm of your hand

and returns to it to land when it detects it extended again.

The drone has an autonomy for about 7 or 8 recordings and stores 100 videos or 1000 photographs inside.

It recharges via USB in about 40 minutes, and videos and photos (12-megapixel resolution) can be viewed within the Snapchat app on mobile and exported for use on other social networks.

Of course, since

its weight barely touches 100 grams,

the manufacturer does not recommend using it with gusts of wind.

It also does not have an obstacle detection system, although unlike other gifts, it is only designed to move a few meters away from the owner.

It is unlikely, therefore, that it will be lost or end up in the top of a tree.

For now, Snapchat will only sell the drone in the US and France,

although it plans to expand availability to other territories as supply problems in semiconductors ease.
