From 2007 to 2018, there were 96 cases where professors uploaded their own or a colleague's underage children as co-authors of their papers.

There were also suspicions that it was used for the entrance exam for their children, but only a few were severely punished or their admission was canceled.

For more details, reporter Kim Kyung-hee will tell you.

This is a paper by Professor Lee Byung-cheon of Seoul National University published in 2012.

The son of Professor Lee, who was in high school at the time, was listed as the second author.

His son took advantage of this thesis and transferred him to the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Kangwon National University in 2015.

However, as a result of the Seoul National University survey, it was revealed that there was no contribution enough to become a co-author, and in the end, Kangwon University's admission in 2020 was canceled.

In this way, 96 cases were confirmed between 2007 and 2018 where professors included their own or a colleague's children as co-authors.

However, only 3 of the 69 related professors received severe disciplinary action, such as dismissal, and most of them exceeded the three-year statute of limitations and were mere cautions and warnings.

Their actions against their 82 underage children are even more modest.

It was confirmed that only 10 of the 46 students who entered domestic universities had used their research thesis dissertation for university admissions, and only 5 of them were revoked.

Prof. Lee Byung-cheon's son and Cho Min, the daughter of former Attorney General Cho Kuk, were also included, but a lawsuit has been filed.

The Ministry of Education amended the relevant law to increase the statute of limitations for research misconduct from 3 years to 10 years, and banned the reflection of small thesis from the 2022 university entrance exam.

It is pointed out that the limitation of this verification is that it is only a survey of elementary, middle, and high school minors, and it is not possible to filter out cases of intervening children of college students or older.
