A man in his 50s who struck down a mart employee who he thought had been treated unkindly several times with a sledgehammer was sentenced to prison.

The 11th Criminal Division of the Daegu District Court (Chief Judge Lee Sang-oh) announced today (25th) that Mr. A (50 years old), who was arrested and charged with attempted murder, was sentenced to 5 years in prison and 5 years of probation.

Person A was handed over to trial on the charge of attempting to kill employee B with a blunt weapon at a mart in Dong-gu, Daegu around 4 am on December 11 last year, but failed.

As a result of the investigation, Mr. A puts the blunt tool from the mart at the supermarket and asked Mr. B to “find a razor,” and the moment B bowed his head to take out the razor, he took the blunt instrument from the shopping cart and struck it several times.

Person B was seriously injured, but resisted vigorously and took the blunt weapon that Mr. A was holding, and it did not lead to further damage.

Mr. A thought that Mr. B was treating himself unkindly as a customer, so he got angry and was found to have committed this kind of crime with the purpose of killing Mr. B.

A's side argued in court, "At the time of the crime, the ability to discriminate objects or decision-making was weak due to emotional control disorders, etc."

However, the court did not accept Mr. A's claim, saying, "Given that he clearly remembers the crime process while being investigated by the investigative agency, it is difficult to say that he was in a state of emotional weakness."

The court said, "The defendant committed a terrible crime only for the trivial reason that the victim was usually unkind to him," the court said.

He explained the reason for the sentencing, "taking into account the fact that the victim has not received any compensation for damage, that he has not been able to return to his daily life, and that he is pleading for severe punishment for the accused."
