The National Police Agency has announced that it will crack down on speeding and reckless driving on highways.

The National Police Agency believes that as the mandatory social distancing measures are lifted, the demand for travel will increase and the amount of travel on the highway will also increase.

In particular, the police decided to minimize inconvenience to citizens by intensively arranging traffic police in areas of frequent congestion on highways, and to actively respond to chronic reckless driving and dangerous driving, such as cutting in and speeding.

The National Police Agency is also planning to focus on deploying dark patrol cars and unmanned aerial vehicles on highways connected to major tourism and recreation areas with high traffic volume and frequent accidents.

In particular, we actively utilize on-board traffic enforcement equipment that can enforce speeding anywhere on the highway, and collect traffic violations using a camcorder in case it may be difficult to immediately crack down.

According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, the average daily highway traffic volume on weekends from January to March this year was around 4 million, but it increased to about 4.84 million vehicles in April due to easing of distances and increased local travel demand.
