Intelligence has been obtained that a Korean citizen who participated in the volunteer army to help Ukraine has died.

The government is verifying the authenticity of the information.

Lee Geun, former captain of the Navy's Special Warfare Group, left for Ukraine to participate in the war as an international volunteer.



It is known that four Korean citizens, including former Captain Lee, have entered Ukraine without permission and are staying so far.



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it had received information that there were deaths among Koreans who participated in the volunteer army, and said that they are aware of the facts.



However, an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the details of the intelligence were only about the death of multiple Koreans, and that neither the identity nor the death could be determined.



When SBS inquired about the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, it said, "We cannot disclose the casualties according to policy," but about Captain Lee Geun, "We confirmed that he is in good health.



As Russia launches a general offensive in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, the massacre of civilians continues to emerge in the area where Russian troops retreated.



More than 1,000 civilian bodies have been found so far in the capital Kiiu region.
