The forest fire in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do started around 1:36 pm yesterday.
The fire spread rapidly to the surroundings with winds exceeding 15 m/s in a strong wind advisory.
At one time, about 20 Myeongji-ri residents were evacuated to village halls to escape the forest fire.
The forestry authorities put out 18 helicopters and 1,100 ground personnel to put out a big fire yesterday before sunset.
To prevent the fire from growing again overnight, 398 crew members and thermal imaging drones were deployed to continue the evolution.
After all-night firefighting work, the main fire was caught at around 1:30 am today, 12 hours after the fire started.
There were no casualties in this forest fire, but 81 ha of forest was burned.
