A post office worker who stole the savings of old people he was close with and used it for entertainment is being investigated by the police.

So far, only 100 known victims and the amount of damage amounted to 170 million won.



Gyeongsangbuk-do Yeongdeok Police Station announced on the 21st that they are investigating post office employee A (30s, female) on suspicion of embezzling money entrusted to a customer.



Person A is suspected of stealing 170 million won from deposits and using it for entertainment expenses by stealing bankbooks and seals entrusted by residents while working as a post office worker in Yeongdeok-gun from April 2020.



Person A committed the crime against 100 residents with whom he was acquainted, and most of the victims were known to be elderly people.



Person A, who has been committing crimes for nearly two years, was revealed through an internal audit by the Gyeongbuk Post Office.



As a result of the postal inspection, it was confirmed that Mr. A stole money from customers by forging or forging financial-related payment bills.



After confirming this, the postal administration reported Mr. A to the police and returned all damages to the victims.



The postal administration said, "We will take strict measures against the mischievous staff in accordance with internal regulations, and we bow our heads in apology to the customers who have loved the post office."



The police are investigating the other crimes, believing that there will be additional crimes, considering the background and method of Mr. A's crime.
