The Fire Department announced the results of a public-private joint central investigation team into a fire at a new construction site in Pyeongtaek that took the lives of three firefighters in January.

The investigation team said, "It is estimated that an instantaneous fire gas ignited while a large amount of combustible gas was accumulated on the second floor of the fire site. He must have lost the direction of his escape and was isolated."

He continued, "The Songtan Fire Department command made them enter the interior because the fire had gone into a quiet state at the stage where it was possible to clear the fire," he said. “, he explained.

The fire occurred on the 5th of January at 11:46 pm at the construction site of a new frozen logistics warehouse in Goryeom-ri, Cheongbuk-eup, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do. Three people were isolated and eventually found dead.

The investigation team, which included professional investigators from external agencies, lawyers, and officials from the fire union, conducted an on-site investigation for two months until the 15th of last month.

According to the results of this investigation, the Fire Department is planning to take measures such as strengthening education for firefighters including commanders and upgrading life-saving equipment.

We have decided to provide training on the commander qualification certification course so that field commanders can directly and indirectly experience various situations to develop their ability to foresee risks and develop judgment, and the personnel who have received these qualifications will be appointed as commanders and fire chiefs preferentially.

We plan to develop and disseminate on-site response safety training programs for firefighters across the country, as well as disseminate educational materials such as new types of fires and cases of overseas special fires.

While distributing equipment that tracks and manages firefighters' biosignals in real time, we have decided to expand R&D so that special equipment such as combustible gas detection robots and armored fire trucks can be put first to hazardous sites.
