Honda has been selling cars under the Civic name for 50 years.

Once started as a small car, the Civic has long since become a sedan in the lower middle class.

The eleventh generation will be making its debut in September, and in Germany the four-door hatchback sedan will henceforth only be sold in a single variant as a hybrid model.

Much of the vehicle is new, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, for example, and also the bodywork, which for once does not grow upwards, but becomes flatter.

The roof is five centimeters lower, the hood moves down a little, the A-pillar moves five centimeters backwards.

Honda says the new Civic is the lowest car in the C segment.

But the headroom in the rear does not suffer.

We can confirm the latter after a seat test on the occasion of the first static presentation of the newcomer.

Anyway, the exterior of the Civic has won, like the flat strip of lights at the front with nine LED lamps in a row, and the rear lights, which are now horizontal, look good.

According to Honda, the new engine has an efficiency of 41 percent, which is exceptional for a petrol engine.

It works together with an electric motor, the duo offers 184 hp (135 kW) and a maximum torque of 315 Nm.

The engine can also drive the front wheels alone, but it usually acts as a generator and produces the electricity for the electric motor.

There is no gearbox in the actual sense, only a fixed ratio.

The system is known from the Honda Jazz, it was revised for the Civic.

According to Honda, the Civic is 90 percent purely electric in the city.

A small traction battery sits under the back seat.

The European Civic are built in the Yorii plant near Tokyo.

In his home country there are still combustion models.

In Germany, all Hondas will be electrified from September.
