A woman in her 30s was arrested in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, on charges of leaving her 6-year-old son to death.

The woman is known to have left her severely handicapped son at home alone for over 20 days.

At around 8 pm on the 8th, a woman in her 30s who lives here was arrested on charges of neglecting her 6-year-old son to death.



Her biological mother, Mr. A, left her son alone at home for 20 days and then returned home with her acquaintances.



She was later known to have been discovered by an acquaintance of her child's body and called the police.



Her deceased child was severely intellectually disabled and had limited mobility.



She couldn't even eat her own food.



She didn't even go to kindergarten or daycare.

An autopsy by the National Forensic Service revealed that the child died of starvation.



There were no major injuries to her body, but police said she looked smaller than her age.



Mr. A separated from her husband a year ago and divorced a month ago.



He also didn't have much of a job.



Person A stated in the police investigation, "I left the child behind because I was struggling financially and psychologically."



Police said that Mr. A stayed with his son at another acquaintance's house in Seoul, and there was also a report of abuse from an acquaintance saying, "The mother beats the child."



The police are investigating whether there was an intention to kill while arresting Mr. A on charges of child abuse and murder.
