A 'mentor' teacher in his 20s who sent a text message to a 'mentee' student he met through a mentoring program was fined.

A mentoring program is an activity in which a person with abundant experience and knowledge provides guidance or advice to a person in need.

According to the legal community on the 11th, Detective 7 of Changwon District Court (Judge Lee Ji-hee) sentenced a college student A (21), who was handed over to trial for talking nonsense (child abuse) to a youth in mentoring class, a fine of 5 million won.

Person A is charged with sending a text message containing insulting content to Miss B (13) several times.

In July 2020, Ms. A met Ms. B through the 'College Student Mentoring Project for Low-Income Children', a local government welfare program.

They started mentoring classes according to the program, but in September of the same year, Mr. A got into an argument with Miss B's mother and ended the mentoring class.

However, in October of last year, about a year after the class ended, Mr. A started sending insulting text messages to Miss B.

In the message sent by Mr. A, 'You look like your mother, so you can't study', 'You can't study, you don't have money, you have an ugly face and you're fat', 'Hey, what are you going to become because you can't study?

I have no money to go to college.”

To Mr. A, who had to stand in court, the court pointed out that "Miss B must have been very traumatized by the incident."

However, he explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "A is being treated for symptoms of schizophrenia, such as auditory hallucinations, and the sentence is decided based on the fact that this disease seems to have had an effect on committing the crime."

This is a 'news pick'.
