After 11 years of the humidifier sterilizer disaster, the damage relief and mediation plan came out last month, but it is in danger of failing due to refusal by companies.

The victims urged to come up with a countermeasure, and the mediation committee decided to persuade Oxy and Aekyung Industrial.

The Conciliation Committee for Humidifier Disinfectant Damage Relief recently prepared a final reconciliation plan and sent it to victims' organizations and nine companies that participated in the damage conciliation.

The contents are to pay 200 million to 400 million won for the survivors of the victims, and up to 500 million won for the most severe victims depending on their age.

However, Oxy and Aekyung Industrial said they would not accept the mediation proposal.

Of the total support amount of 924 billion won, Oxy should pay 53% and Aekyung Industrial will pay about 7%, depending on the contribution ratio.

Oxy, who has to pay the most, has already paid 360 billion won in compensation to the victims, and is arguing that the ratio of the share between companies is not fair.

The mediation committee is scheduled to explain the progress of its activities next Monday and reveal the direction of the committee, but decided not to end its activities as it is but to persuade the two companies a little more, an official from the mediation committee said.

To this end, the Mediation Committee also decided to send an official letter stating that it would ask the two companies for their requests and actively mediate.

It is known that some victims' groups have recently requested the Ministry of Environment to allow them to meet with SK chemicals and Oxy for readjustment.
