Suddenly, an explosion occurs in the corner of the store that has been turned off, and flames come out.

A hazy smoke fills the shop in an instant.

Yesterday (the 5th) around 3:05 am, a fire broke out at an electronics store in Uam-dong, Cheongju.

The battery of the electric scooter that was being charged inside the store exploded, and it caught on fire just over two hours after charging started.

[Sung-Jun Park / Store owner: I used it for more than two years, so I unintentionally plugged in the charger and went up (at home), but I didn't know this would happen.]

The neighbors rescue the man who fell from the 7th floor of the apartment with a blanket.

This fire, which occurred in Cheongju in August last year, also started when the battery exploded while charging the electric scooter.

In the past five years, there have been 127 electric scooter and electric bicycle fires across the country, and there have already been 16 fires this year.

Batteries for personal vehicles should not be charged indoors for a long time, and it is dangerous to leave the room while charging or to charge while sleeping.

[Jang Man-gyu / Cheongju Eastern Fire Department Prevention and Safety Division: It is best to use a certified product equipped with a safety device.

It's best to recharge in a place that's right next to you and can be managed.

It is also important to unplug the cord when charging is complete.]

Experts advise that you should also refrain from charging at the front door or emergency exit so as not to block the evacuation route.
