The craft brewery Basqueland has been awarded for the second consecutive year as the best in the

Barcelona Beer Challenge

, the most important beer competition in Southern Europe.



This has been known in a ceremony that has taken place in the InnBrew, the fair that brings together professionals in the sector and has been held in Hospitalet de Llobregat.



Basqueland, founded by three Americans in the town of Hernani, has achieved

two gold medals, five silver and one bronze.



"It is a great honor for us to receive this recognition," said the brewer.



The award for best new brewer went to the Italian

Birrificio Liquida

and the

Molina For Brewers

award for innovation went to

Cervesa Mager

, a small brewery specializing in wild beers.

At the gala, the Steve Huxley

, which recognizes the trajectory of a lifetime dedicated to the sector.

The winner has been for

Salvador Marimon

, from Install Beers.

The jury has recognized Marimon as "a key person in the initial development of the microbrewery movement".



This year there has been a record of participation in the beer competition.

Sixty judges have tasted the more than 1,300 beers that have been presented by more than 200 breweries from all over the world.



In addition, for the first time, a platinum medal has been awarded to the beers that have been awarded in five different editions.

The winners have been Arriaca, San Jordi and Sullerica.
