200 imported electric vehicles that were left in the middle of the mountains of Jeju due to the bankruptcy of the rental car company were put up for auction in a court of law.

According to the Jeju District Court today (23rd), about 160 of the 200 BMW i3 electric vehicles that were neglected and controversial in Jeju last year were recently sold at an auction.

The appraised value of these cars is set at a minimum of 200,000 won and a maximum of 16 million won depending on the condition of the vehicle.

The winning bids ranged from as low as 1 million won to as high as 18 million won.

Currently, the BMW i3 is trading at around 20 million won in the used car market.

The cars that were up for auction this time were BMW i3 models from 2015 to 2016, bought by a car rental company with government subsidy support of about 20 million won per car. It was left unattended in various places, but eventually came up for auction.

Most of the successful bidders were known as used car dealers from other regions.

In the Jeju region, there are also criticisms that the electric vehicles supplied by the provincial government through subsidies to expand the supply of electric vehicles are being sold to other regions.

About 30 vehicles with a relatively high appraised value will be bid and a second auction will be held on the 5th of the following month.
