9.94 million internet users in the country.. "YouTube" first and "Twitter" at the bottom of the list

 The number of active accounts on social media applications and platforms in the UAE until January 2022 was about 38.63 million, according to a report issued by the specialized website Global Media Insight.

The report revealed an increase in Internet users in the UAE, with 95 thousand new users registered between 2021 and 2022, while the Internet penetration rate in the country reached 99% of the total population until the beginning of 2022.

"YouTube" topped the list of social networking platforms according to usage, then "Facebook" in second place, and "Tik Tok" clearly advanced to occupy the third place, then "LinkedIn" in the fourth place, while the "Instagram" platform ranked fifth. The "Snapchat" and "Twitter" platforms ranked sixth and seventh, respectively.

In detail, the report ranked the “YouTube” application as the most used among social media platforms and applications in the country with a rate of 91.1 percent and about 9.06 million users, while “Facebook” ranked second with 72.4% with 7.2 million active accounts, and “Tik Tok” It ranked third with 62.4% with 6.7 million active accounts.

The LinkedIn application ranked fourth with 57.3% with 5.7 million, while the Instagram application ranked fifth with 52.8% and 5.25 million active accounts.


Snapchat came in sixth place with 32.7% with 3.25 million active accounts, while Twitter ranked seventh with 24.6% with 2.45 million active accounts.


The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Digital Government revealed in its annual achievements report for the year 2021 that the number of Internet users in the UAE reached 9.94 million users at the end of last year, while the average time spent by the country’s residents using the Internet was about 7.24 hours per day, of which 1.57 hours Average time spent reading the news, and 2.55 hours average time spent on social media.

Regarding internet speeds during the year 2021, the authority explained that the average download speed on phones amounted to about 177.52 megabytes, with an increase of 104.6% in download speed using the internet of phones compared to the year 2020, while the download speed using the fixed internet reached 130.99 megabytes, with an increase of 44.6 %.
